Change.

We all yearn for it and at times we dread it, but it is an ever-present part of our lives. Encountering change is front and center each January. New year, new you; Best year ever; Meet your goals…all these phrases promise change with the hope of something “better.”

I’ve learned that in my pursuit of better, actually achieving it is “better” than me.  I can hold on to a resolution for a while but tend to fall back into the patterns that I have created (or were created for me that I’ve continued) in my life. In my journey I’ve realized there must be more than myself to bring about the change that I desire or I would have already made the change on my own.

What I have found is the necessity for something greater than me to be in charge of my change. I have found that in Christ. We are encouraged in Romans 6 with this: Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness. For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.”

So if you feel controlled by something in your life, give yourself completely to God. For it is in this act of submission that you will get the freedom that your heart desires. What about you? What is your “go-to” for change? My hope is that you’ll consider inviting Christ to be the change for you.

If you are wanting to understand this more deeply, this Sunday at FBC Hendersonville a special guest speaker Junior Hill will be talking about how to find freedom in Christ. Click here to find more information about the service times and locations so you can hear this message of hope.
