Most people think of Valentine’s Day as a time for romance. And obviously, it is a day set aside for couples to express their love for one another. But during this season we can also show love for those we care about in non-romantic ways. After all, the Bible reminds us in John 13:34 to love one another, and that includes a whole array of individuals.
Who can you reach out to this week?
There are people in our circle of acquaintances and friendships who need to know they are appreciated simply for being a great support to us! It might be a babysitter, a schoolteacher, ministry leader at church, hairstylist, neighbor, in-law, or just a really good friend!
Think of this demonstration of love as if it were flipped. Wouldn’t you enjoy getting some recognition that demonstrates how special you are to someone who cherishes your friendship? Nothing complicated, just a show of appreciation?
Some simple ways to display love and gratitude might include the following ideas but I encourage you to customize your list to specifics of your friend’s favorite things.
- Festive cupcakes or cookies in their chosen flavor
- Flowers or a plant (inexpensive arrangements can be found at many grocery stores)
- Colorful balloons
- Festive, fun gloves or a winter hat (for the February chill)
- A gift card to his/her favorite place (coffee or other)
- Basket or gift bag filled with some of their fave snacks, lotions, or house gadgets
- Invitation to lunch, coffee, or dessert the week leading up to, or on Valentine’s weekend
The list is endless! Have fun and don’t stress over it. Just think of a creative way to celebrate that special friend in your life.
